Serpent Shenanigans...
June's been an unusual month - and without feeling the need to 'blog' to you fine people, I've decided to drop a little update in to let you know what's coming in early May.
Firstly, it's that time of year where we all pack up and head to some random festival. This year we're going to Belgium, and I'm planning on taking a camera for once in my life, meaning the Warped Views section will be updated with the lighter side of computing gone wrong ;)
We've also got the usual Wi...(Read More)

KDE vs Gnome
It's taken me years to decide between Gnome and KDE, and the truth is that I've actually bounced between the two quite evenly while still making up my mind. But I think I drew the line when installing OpenSuSE 11.1 which came with KDE4 - then the problems began :(
KDE does look prettier, and seems certainly more customizable (especially now since GDM has undergone a rewrite and lost theme support!), but small things kept getting in the way, the panel config is uncomprehendable, crea...(Read More)

So long GeoCities...
It's always sad when an old friend on the Internet dies, and today I learned of another good old Internet portal that powered the web for many years during the 1990's – GeoCities is going offline for good.
Brought by Yahoo! in 1999 for a stupidly large sum, GeoCities allowed the web community to host free websites - something that sparked an era of cheap, badly coded MS FrontPage websites hosting screensavers, backgrounds and dodgy Windows 98 utilities to make your start menu ...(Read More)

Shared Libraries Overview
I've managed to complete a very quick, brief guide to shared libraries on Linux (the guide was written using Ubuntu as a source). It's basic, but does tell you how to create a working C++ shared library for Linux. At present it doesn't focus on source code (I will create an example next), but focuses more on compiling and linking in order to get an application to work with a library - with or without installing it.
I mainly wrote it because the steps seemed overwhelming and hard to ...(Read More)
Coming Soon: Search The Serpent |
A word on accessibility |
| Well it's only taken us seven years to finally replace the poll system that never worked (we tried to copy PHPNukes system but failed terribly), so instead we threw together some cheap PHP code to search our articles, downloads and news. Keep an eye out for the new search box (hopefully all AJAX'ed up!). | Please note that despite a few unfriendly comments from certain members of society, The Serpent does NOT come under the 'Disability Discrimination Act' requirements to make this site shoot out braile lumps from your monitor. Because we are a non-profit personal site which offers free services, AND since we have made 'reasonable' efforts - we're not doing anymore. Nuff said. |

Text Too Small, Images Out Of Place...? |
| The X-Files Chronicles is 90% complete and online. There's just some text formatting to sort out, and get the movie entry posted. I also need to get the 'love', and 'paranormal' highlighting working as well. | Tell us what you think of the websites looks, feel, touch, etc etc (except the graphics... we know they SUCK!), any comments or suggestions welcome. |
